Gretchen Hillhouse established her eponymous design label from her home in Castlemaine in 2006, focusing on finely crafted, handmade pieces using her signature material of porcelain. Gretchen’s work is represented in public collections throughout Australia and private collections internationally.

Gretchen says "Most people think of porcelain as a beautiful but fragile material that teacups are made from that will break under the slightest pressure. I use it in a way that maximises its strength – high firing it in a kiln to industrial temperatures so it ends up with similar properties to a stone - like Jade."

Gretchen's design influences include her European ancestral roots and often reference historical eras.
